Self worth Poems

An unknown author wrote this poem. It is a Favorite Poem of Shane Clark. This is the only self-poem on this site that I did not write myself. I would love to know it's original author so that I can post her (I believe it is a 'her'). Someone told me a long time ago, but I failed to write it down for self-notes... so if you happen to know... please tell me.

SELF WORTH

After a while you learn a subtle difference between holding a hand and changing a soul;

And you learn that love doesn’t mean leaning and company doesn’t mean security;

And you begin to learn that kisses aren’t contracts and presents aren’t promises;

And you begin to accept your defeats with your head up and your eyes open with the grace of an adult, not the grief of a child;

And you learn to build your roads on today because tomorrow’s ground is too uncertain for plans.

After a while you learn that even sunshine burns if you get to much;

So plant your own garden and decorate your soul, instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers;

And learn that you really can endure,.. That you really are strong, and you really do have worth!

Other Interests of Worth to Shane Clark

I also draw Celtic Tattoo Art and provide Celtic Symbols Meanings. I have been drawing as a way to strengthen myself worth ever since I can remember. The reason I started drawing Celtic art is because I was adopted into a Nordic family and my adoptive father saw that I was drawing Nordic art, which is similar to Celtic art. He gave me the advice to research my own self-culture and draw my own self-culture’s art. He also inspired me to contact my family for the possibility that us Clarks have saved our knowledge of the Celtic people throughout history... and it turns out we have. The information you will find on my websites is often a result of this. Much of it however was obtained by reading over 480 Celtic books. You can find a list of these books at Celtic Traditions, a website where I am publishing my books (namely "Clans of the Earth Life Traditions") as I type them in... Free for you to view.

In addition, I have researched Live Tropical Fish, Tropical Fish Diseases, and more. You can find this information by clicking the links.

Self-Worth

Self-worth is frequently based on one's feelings of worth in terms of skills, achievements, status, financial resources, or physical attributes. This kind of self-esteem or self-worth often creates an independent and arrogant attitude. When one finds oneself not measuring up to society's idea for worth, one suffers serious consequences. One's self-worth depreciates dramatically. This illusion of being successful and admired often gives an individual disillusionment as their possessions and achievements that used to nourish ones soul begins to fail to satisfy one's appetite.

Each one of us experiences basic needs - hunger, fatigue, thirst, etc. Often, one is conditioned to satisfy these needs by getting something - thirst, hunger, fatigue, etc. Mistakenly we are conditioned to satisfy these needs by getting something - food, drink, and water. It is a mistake to conclude that by getting these things, that one has achieved an acceptable self-worth/esteem.

Certain things depreciate self-worth. Among these things is regret, anger, or fear.

It is impossible for one to conjure up self-worth/esteem oneself. Feelings of happiness by acquiring something are a poor substitute for the true joy of contributing. One's pursuit of perfection and approval drives one steadily away from true peace and self-confidence. If one focuses one's attention on one's worldly resources, rather than one's contribution to making a better world, one will inflate oneself with pride.

Real self-worth is internal. It is the realizing of the true source of one's usefulness and value.
